I would like to start off and say, I hope you enjoyed your Independence day, and that you reflected upon what our for-fathers did and sacrificed! Now we continue.
Many of us have heard someone (for the purpose of this article, a Christian) singing, whistling, humming, etc. a certain song that they should not be; as in the words or idea/s of the song is not, pure, clean, Godly. I have, and I'm others have as well, recently had a conversation on such matter, and where a person/s were singing a song, and something slipped; and naturally they laughed and shrugged it off. I, on the other hand, was fuming, and both vocally and physically furious. How can a person do such thing, and not be in remorse, and begging for forgiveness? John 17:14-16 tells us how the disciples were in their sanctity, and, as the disciples are to be an example to us, this would be an example to us, for others, and how we should be. Jesus is praying for his disciples, and says, "I have given them your word and the world has hated them, for they are not of the world any more than I am of the world. My prayer is not that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one. They are not of the world, even as I am not of it." He simply asks that they are not corrupted. And why should we be careful and cautious listening to foreign music, because of this, 1 John 4:5, "They are from the world and therefore speak from the viewpoint of the world, and the world listens to them." They speak as the world, they speak worldly, and thus, or likely, un-Godly. And so many times the Bible tells us, warns us not to be associated of this world, for God is not of the world, Satan is the god of this world (1 John 5:19 "We know that we are children of God, and that the whole world is under the control of the evil one.") Matthew 16:26, "What good will it be for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul?"
Matthew 16:24, "Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me.“
Ephesians 6:12 "For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms."
2 Corinthians 6:14 "Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness?"
It is so clear, it warns us, be careful with sinners, and the un-Godly, and the un-Godly things. For when we fill our brains with such wickedness, and starts out small, and expands quickly, till we repeat terrible things, without even giving it second thought!
And, besides our own Spiritual safety, we have a witness, and if a non-Christian, or a new-Christian saw/heard such things, what would they think, "Does God not care what we say. Are we but ants in his view, and what we say and do is irrelevant?" We know this is not true, but do they? Not necessarily. And God tells us that we should not look like the world looks like, including our acts, but especially our speech, and a lot of our speech in modern day comes from some song, old new, classic or pop.
Romans 12:1-2 "Therefore, I urge you brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will."
James 4:4 "You adulteresses [disloyal sinners—flirting with the world and breaking your vow to God]! Do you not know that being the world’s friend [that is, loving the things of the world] is being God’s enemy? So whoever chooses to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God."
1 John 2:15-17 "Do not love this world nor the things it offers you, for when you love the world, you do not have the love of the Father in you. For the world offers only a craving for physical pleasure, a craving for everything we see, and pride in our achievements and possessions. These are not from the Father, but are from this world. And this world is fading away, along with everything that people crave. But anyone who does what pleases God will live forever."
A Christian should look different than the world, for God is not of this world, and, therefor, neither are we.
I challenge us all, in our daily walk of life, to restrain from such habits, and when we see/hear others practicing them, that we simply point out to them, that that is not God like (especially un-Godly language), and that they as a Christian should evaluate whether or not that is what God would want them, and any Christian (or anybody, as God loves the entire world), to do. And always remember, we have a guide book to life; and before we jump, we should always ask, W.hat W.hould J.esus D.o? (W.W.J.D.)
Good tidings God's people, and "The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen." (Meaning that we show grace as Christ, that necessarily that we are given grace)
